In April 2011, Tana's grandsons Jamai and Terrel came to Atlanta to live with "Nana" and "Popi." Check in with us periodically for the latest in pictures and stories about the new adventure.

Jamai

Jamai

A very special boy. The big brother.

Reserved and a bit introverted around lots of people. But once he gets to know you, the introverted nature disappears completely.

In fact, at home and around family, he talks talks talks talks talks talks talks talks talks talks talks talks!!!

You'd never believe that he was once shy and reserved.

Athletic and very fast, Jamai is the essence of the SpiderMan persona that he displays so much.

And yet, for all of his SpiderMan bravado, Jamai moves through life in the center lane, never going over the speed limit and with his seat belt ALWAYS buckled.

VERY smart, Jamai has gotten straight A's in first, second and third grade. He does well academically for 3 basic reasons: he works at it, he reads a lot, and he has a great memory. Want proof? Just get into a debate with him. He will absolutely shred you and your argument with his absolute command of the facts:

Me: Look, there's a Daddy LongLegs. He's a pretty big spider, but he's pretty harmless.
He: But he's not a spider.
Me: Sure he is. Look he's got 8 legs.
He: Actually Popi, Daddy LongLegs is a harvestman, not a spider. See, his head, his thorax and his abdomen are all one piece. In spiders the head and the body are 2 different parts.
Me: Are you sure?
He: Yep. Read it in a book.

That same routine has played out between me and Jamai since he first started reading so much, actually in kindergarten. Whether it is that wasps and hornets are not the same, or that tomatoes are a fruit not a vegetable, or a hundred other arguments that you will never win!

He spends hours on the computer and on the wii, perfecting his gaming skills and hand/eye coordination.

He is a great swimmer and has no fear of the water. He's a talented soccer player and a really good chess player.

Jamai is very sensitive, cautious, and doesn't trust easily.
